§ III — Questions, answered

Common HVO questions.

01What is HVO fuel?
Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO, sometimes called HVO100 or renewable diesel) is a paraffinic diesel substitute refined from waste fats and vegetable oils. It meets the EN 15940 standard and produces up to 90% less lifecycle CO₂ than fossil diesel.
02Can I put HVO fuel in any diesel car?
Yes, HVO is a 'drop-in' fuel compatible with every modern diesel engine without modification or mapping changes. Most manufacturers (Volvo, Scania, Volkswagen, Mercedes) explicitly approve HVO for their diesel vehicles.
03Why isn't HVO available at every forecourt?
HVO is produced in much smaller volumes than fossil diesel and currently costs retailers 10-20p/L more at the wholesale level. Most UK forecourts stocking it are independents and specialist sites; expect gradual expansion as refining capacity grows.
